United Nations Security Council Resolution 589 – Appointment of the new Secretary-General

Resolution 589 (1986) of 10 October 1986

The Society Council,

Having or the question of the recommendation for the appointment of the Secretary-General of the United Nations,

Recommend to the General Awerably that Mr. Javier Pyrer de Cuellar be appointed Secretary General of the United Nations for a second term of office from January 1967 December 1991.

Adopted unanimously at the 2714th (closed) meeting.
