Section 234 Administration of Criminal Justice Law (ACJL) Lagos
Section 234 Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Lagos State, as amended in 2021, is about Change of legal practitioner. It provides as follows:
(1) Every legal practitioner who is engaged in any matter shall be bound to conduct the case on behalf of the prosecution or defendant as the case may be until final judgment, unless allowed for any special reason to cease from acting by the Court of its own motion or upon application by the legal practitioner.
(2) Where a legal practitioner wishes to disengage from a matter, he shall notify the Court, not less than three (3) clear days before the date fixed for hearing, notice of which shall be served on the Court and on all parties.
(3) Such legal practitioner shall not be bound except under express agreement or unless re-engaged to take any proceedings in relation to any appeal from such judgment:
Provided that the provisions of this section shall not apply to Law Officers from the Office of the Attorney-General.
