Section 20 Administration of Criminal Justice Law (ACJL) Lagos

Section 20 Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Lagos State, as amended in 2021, is about Police to report arrest and detention. It provides as follows:

(1) Officers in charge of Police Station shall report to the nearest Magistrate within three days of arrest a record of the cases of all persons arrested without warrant within the limits of their respective station whether such persons have been admitted to bail or not and the Magistrate shall forward the record to the Office of the Attorney-General for necessary action.

(2) Where no report is made in accordance with subsection (1) of this section the Magistrate shall notify the Office of the Attorney-General of the development.

(3) All Officers of the Lagos State Transport Management Authority shall remit to the Office of the Attorney-General a record of—
(a) all arrests made in relation to state traffic offences not later than one week after the arrest;
(b) any person arrested for traffic offence who elects to waive his right to court trial by paying the fine stipulated for the offence not later than one week after payment of the fine;
(c) or any person convicted under the State traffic laws not later than one week after conviction.
