Rule 51 Rules of Professional Conduct for Legal Practitioners

Rule 51 of the Rules of Professional Conduct for Legal Practitioners (RPC) 2023 is about Payment of the expenses of litigation. It is under Part VI (Remuneration and Fees) of Chapter 1 (Conduct) of the Rules. It provides as follows:

A lawyer shall not enter into an agreement to pay for, or bear the expenses of his client’s litigation, but the lawyer may, in good, faith advance expenses —
(a) as a matter of convenience, and
(b) subject to reimbursement.
