Section 14 Administration of Criminal Justice Law (ACJL) Lagos
Section 14 Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Lagos State, as amended in 2021, is about Treatment of person arrested by private person. It provides as follows:
(1) A private person who arrests any other person without a warrant shall without unnecessary delay hand over the person arrested to a Police Officer, or in the absence of a Police Officer shall take the person to the nearest Police Station.
(2) The Police Officer shall make a note of the name, residence and other particulars of the private person making the arrest.
(3) The private person making the arrest shall make a statement of the circumstances of the arrest.
(4) If there is reason to believe that such person comes under the provisions of subsection (1) of section 3, a Police Officer shall re-arrest him.
(5) If there is reason to believe that he has committed an offence triable on information, and he refuses on the demand of a Police Officer to give his name and residence, or gives a name or residence which the officer has reason to believe to be false, he shall be dealt with under the provisions of section 11. If
there is no sufficient reason to believe that he has committed an offence he shall be released at once.
