Section 78 Electoral Act 2026

Section 78 of the Nigerian Electoral Act 2026 is about Contravention of section 227 of the 1999 Constitution. It provides as follows:

(1) A political party or association, which contravenes the provisions of section 227 of the Constitution, commits an offence and is liable on conviction to a fine of
—
(a) ₦5,000,000 for the first offence;

(b) ₦7,000,000 for any subsequent offence; and
(c) ₦500,000 for every day that the offence continues.

(2) Any person or group of persons who aids or abets a political party in contravening the provisions of section 227 of the Constitution, commits an offence and is liable on conviction to a fine of ₦5,000,000 or imprisonment for
a term of five years or both.
