If the Court convicts the defendant or if he pleads guilty, it shall be the duty of the Registrar to ask the defendant whether he has anything to say why sentence should not be passed on him according to Law but the omission of the Registrar to ask him or his being asked by the Judge or Magistrate instead of the Registrar shall have no effect on the validity of the proceedings.
