Section 86 Nigeria Police Act

Section 86 of the Nigeria Police Act 2020 is about Arrest by police to prevent offences. It is under Part IX (Prevention of Offences and Security for Good Behaviour) of the Act. It provides as follows:

Notwithstanding the provisions of this Act or any other law relating to arrest, a police officer on a reasonable suspicion of a plan to commit an offence, may arrest, without orders from a magistrate and without warrant, the suspect where it appears to the officer that the commission of the offence cannot otherwise be prevented.
