Rule 18 Rules of Professional Conduct for Legal Practitioners
Rule 18 of the Rules of Professional Conduct for Legal Practitioners (RPC) 2023 is about Agreement with client. It is under Part II (Relation with Clients) of Chapter 1 (Conduct) of the Rules. It provides as follows:
(1) A client shall be free to choose his lawyer and to dispense with his services as he deems fit, provided that nothing in this rule shall absolve the client from fulfilling any agreed or implied obligations to the lawyer including the payment of fees.
(2) A lawyer shall ensure that important agreements between him and the client are, as far as possible reduced into writing, and it shall be deemed a misconduct for the lawyer to avoid performance of a contract fairly made with his client whether reduced into writing or not.
